Thank you for your interest in our innovative trial to revolutionise urban deliveries.

What is the Virtual Logistics Hub?

We’re trialling a new way to deliver goods in cities using floating logistics hubs and cargo bikes. These hubs act as temporary, emission-free transfer points where pre-packed delivery containers are transferred from electric vans to cargo bikes.

Instead of relying on diesel vans, which contribute to pollution and congestion, our solution uses compact, agile, and clean cargo bikes to make last-mile deliveries in urban areas.

How Does It Work?

- Hub Setup: A small area, equivalent to three parking spaces, is used for one hour a day to act as a logistics hub.
- Transfer: Electric vans bring pre-packed containers to the hub, where they are quickly loaded onto cargo bikes.
- Delivery: Our riders deliver parcels across the city, reducing the need for large, polluting vehicles.

This system is designed to reduce environmental impacts while maintaining high delivery performance.

Why Are We Doing This?

Cities like ours face air pollution, noise, and traffic congestion caused by traditional delivery methods. At XeroE, we’re committed to creating cleaner, healthier urban spaces for everyone by:

Reducing emissions: Cargo bikes eliminate no air pollution, cutting CO2 and particulates.

Easing congestion: Bikes occupy far less road space than vans.

Where Is This Happening?

This trial is taking place in here and other locations around Bristol with our floating hubs set up in designated locations for brief, highly efficient operations.

What Are the Benefits for the Local Community?

- Cleaner Air: Reduced vehicle emissions improve urban air quality.
- Quieter Streets: Fewer diesel vans mean less noise pollution.
- Safer Roads: Bikes are smaller, lighter, and less intrusive than vans.

Trial Details

- Duration: The trial will run for 6 weeks, starting on 30th January.
- Daily Operations: Each hub will operate for 10 minutes within a one hour window each weekday morning.
- Partners: We’re working with Whistl, the DfT and the Connected Places Catapult to test and refine this system.
